Clevite Sweeps All Four Professional Classes Las Vegas, NV, November 16, 2007 – In some of the closest racing of the year, Clevite engine bearings powered the winners of all four professional classes at this past weekend's AC DELCO Las Vegas Nationals, proving once again why Clevite is the choice of top performance engine builders everywhere. Those winners, who counted on Clevite bearings to finish first, included:
Top Fuel: Rod Fuller, driving the CAT Dealers dragster: 4.531 seconds at 327.82 mph.
Funny Car: Tony Pedregon, driving the Q Power Impala: 4.871 seconds at 318.47 mph.
Pro Stock: Greg Anderson, driving the Summit Racing Equipment GTO: 6.731 seconds at 205.04 mph.
Pro Stock Motorcycle: Andrew Hines, driving the Screamin' Eagle/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson V-Rod: 7.073 seconds at 187.34 mph.
As evidence of just how close the racing was, the margin of victory for Rod "Hot Rod" Fuller in the Top Fuel finals was just six thousandths of a second, Tony Pedregon's margin of victory in Funny Car was a scant 8 feet, Greg Anderson's trap speed bested his Pro Stock competitor by just 0.65 mph, and Andrew Hines defeated perennial foe Chip Ellis for the sixth time out of all six times they've competed in Pro Stock Motorcycle eliminations. And all of this competition took place in air temperatures just shy of 90 degrees with track temperatures north of the 100 degree mark.
Rod Fuller enjoyed a paycheck of nearly $200,000 for two days' work in the course of becoming just the fourth Top Fuel driver in NHRA history to win both the Technicoat Shootout and race during the same weekend. He credits a stout bottom end riding on legendary Clevite 77® engine bearings for holding up against the torture and temperatures in the Las Vegas desert. "The stresses on my crankshaft and bearings are phenomenal in moving this 2125 lb. car down the ol' 1320 in four and a half seconds. I know Clevite bearings are up to the challenge."
Funny Car winner Tony Pedregon echoes Fuller's sentiments. "There's no margin for error in a crankshaft spinning at 8900 rpm," notes "Hot Rod" Fuller. "The film of oil a couple of thousandths thick is the only thing standing between a win and a pile of parts that used to be an engine. So we use only bearings that we know are made to the most exacting tolerances in the business."
In addition to the Grand Slam of winning all four pro classes in Las Vegas, Clevite bearings also powered many of the other professional and amateur competitors in the weekend event, proving once again why Clevite is the world's most popular performance engine bearing.
